  2. Announce at lab meeting

  4. Maintain identity of BEAST, distinct from group meeting
  5. Enforce consequences
  6. Collect pentacharts+ timecharts from sub-group
  7. Coordinate with Georgiann to schedule Scott for the month.

Core members Responsibilities:

  1. Attendance/participation
  2. Presentations when asked by organizer
  3. Report absences, preferably before
  4. Be on time
  5. Time chart: once/cycle
  6. Pentacharts: updated once/cycle

Process

  1. 1 organizer/month
  2. Maintain sub-groups
  3. Organizer meeting once/cycle
  4. Open to entire lab except for meeting with Scott
  5. Types of meetings: Tutorials, journal club, troubleshooting, brainstorming, guest speakers
  6. Scott present 1 meeting/month, typically last week of month, open only to core members

Membership advantage:

Guidelines for Speakers

  • 2 speakers per meeting
  • 30 minutes total, including all questions (Asked to give up floor when time is up)
  • Topics, use of time:
    1. Progress of current work, includes anything you have been working on since last presentation.
    2. Include technical detail, emphasizing HOW
    3. May include results of research on equipment, components for use or purchase, but should include technical details
    4. Time can be used to discuss a technical question.
    5. MUST clearly present background for question first.
    6. Should NOT be question & answer, back and forth to understand problem

Rules:

Any changes to colors used should be changed within the Color Theme. Sub-group color choices right now:

  • General Technical: Grey
  • Jeff/OCT/Eye stuff: Blue
  • Developmental Biology (later, but my suggestion): Green
  • Others in Theme which should work: Orange, Purple, Yellow (not in Theme, but could be easily added)
